      Hi Smurtscientist!

That is a very philosophical question! Where WOULD we be?

I think that there not much doubt in the science world that at one point there was nothing (no space, no time, no matter, no energy) then a “BANG” then the universe bang started expanding.

If there wasn’t a big bang 13.7 billion years ago, then we wouldn’t be here. Nothing at ALL would be here. Nothing – it’s very hard to imagine. But, if there was no Big bang at that point in the past, that’s not to say there wouldn’t be a bang at another time in the future.

Also, it’s very important to remember that “we” are not at all important in the big scheme of life the universe and everything. Humans are only a tiny insignificant speck in the Universe’s history – In fact, the big bang happened 13.7 billion years ago, the Earth has only existed for around 4.5 billion years, and humans only come into the story around about 200,000 years ago.

So if you imagine the life of the Universe as a 24 hour day, where the big bang happened at 00.00am, Earth probably started existing at around 7.40am, and human existence would probably only occupy the very last milliseconds of the clock.

In the eyes of the Universe we are brand new – and not very significant. It’s mind blowing to imagine!

I honestly dont know, not very far.

but the big bang is of course just a theory ( like the TV show says!). ofetn in science we talk about facts but in the end we are never 100% sure. Scientists throughout the years have beeen sure about their theories which now sound bonkers today, like matter being made up of just 4 elements and these being interchangable.

who knows what theories we think of as fact today will be disproved in the future! thats why i think to be a good scientist you realy have to eb open minded.
