I was always more interested in the underlying science of medicine than the actual treating people/animals part. But I would imagine that being a vet is very rewarding. If you like medicine, animals and meeting lots of people and their pets. You certainly have to be hard-working and a people person to do a job like that. But making sick animals better and helping their worried owners must be satisfying.
I always wanted to be a vet but I am too squeamish. I also think I would have got too emotionally attached to the animals which would have been hard, plus I think I would have felt sad a lot of the time as often particularly with small animals it can be difficult to treat them. I have friends who love being a vet, one of them has even started his own practice so now runs his own business. I am glad that some people want to be vets otherwise there wouldn’t be anyone to help look after my guinea pigs!
I’m the same as Louise – I would be way too squeamish!
I think being a vet would be hard – I think it’s harder to diagnose pets than people because the animals can’t tell you what’s wrong or where it hurts. But I think it would be very rewarding and enjoyable when you do make lots of animals better or help lots of animals have babies.
My puppy loves to go to the vet (even if it’s just to buy him his food!) because he gets so much fuss and attention when he visits. So, even though it would be a difficult job, you would definitely have fun saying hello to all the cute animals!
Do you want to be a vet? If so – Good luck and stick with your sciences as it will be very important when applying to go to Vet School 🙂
I think being avet would be a very rewarding job, I think I would have struggled with it though. When treating humans you cen tell them that it will only hurt for a minute, and they can understand that what you are doing is to make them better. To an animal, you cannot say any of this stuff and even if you did, they wouldn’t understand. I think would also get emotionally attached and would feel very sad when I couldn’t help them. Good luck if you do want to be a vet! Defintely keep your science subjects, maths might also be helpful as well! 🙂
