• Question: Do you only look at protien in the blood for humans or do you also look at it in other kinds of animals?

      Hi!

      Thanks for your question! My main focus is to look at the proteins in human blood (from willing blood donors!) because it is the best way to understand how they work together in a human and how they can go wrong in a disease.

      The proteins I look at are called the “Complement proteins” because they are said to Compliment the immune cells to destroy bugs invading our body. These proteins are really really old in evolution terms and so lots and lots of animals have these exact same proteins (even sharks – in fact there is new evidence that humans actually evolved from sharks around 300 million years ago).
