As a scientist, you can do both. Where I work, I am the only one working on my topic so I have to quite a lot by myself. However…. science can sometimes give you funny answers that don’t make sense so you need to talk to other scientists to help make sense of it all. Some labs are very big and have lots of people working on the same thing. After Christmas I am getting 3 more people to come and work with me and I will have to train them to be able to work in the lab with me, I am looking forward to having more people to work with. Some scientists like to work independently, and don’t work very much with other people. I think to be a good scientist you need to be able to do both. You need to be able to trust your own thoughts and know what you need to do, but you also need to be able to work in a team and be able to ask for help from other people. I do like working in a group but it is nice to be in control of your own work and to be able to do what you want to do.:)

I agree! I like working by myself but I like knowing I can ask people for help and I enjoy teaching others if they need my help.

I also like being involved in other peoples’ projects so that I am always busy and excited 🙂

I like to work in a group, exchanging ideas with other scientists. But I also like to be in charge of the group, so I get to decide what questions we ask and experiments get done. I have been lucky enough to work with some very talented scientists during my career.
