  Bubonic plague caused by the bacterium Yersinia pestis was only really a problem because of poor hygiene allowing the rats that carried the fleas that carried the bacteria to exist in large numbers. Modern antibiotics, if given quickly after infection, are very effective and we have far fewer rats and fleas that carry it nowadays.

Question: is there a possibility that a disease like the plague could come back to england, and would there be a cure for it?
