I am quite proud of what I do. It’s nice to know that what you are doing will one day make a difference to public health. Even the teaching that I get to do makes a difference! I wasn’t the most confident person when I was at school and I don’t come from a very rich background. Hardly anyone from my school went on to do A-levels so getting to university was a big achievement for me. Being able to go on further to get a doctorate degree was way beyond my wildest dreams. I really love what I do, and I know that my family and friends are really proud of me. Some of my previous teachers from school even know what I do, they were very happy when they saw how well I had done. I am really glad I did them proud. Without the start that they and my parents gave me in education… and science, I wouldn’t be where I am today. 🙂

Thank you for asking! I’m very similar to Louise, actually, as very few people in my school went on to Uni and so that makes it extra special for me too, so yes I am quite proud of what I do.

Because I am trying to help patients and also because I am paid by a charity, I do feel that it’s extra important to always make sure I am working hard and trying my best.

Working in science can be difficult and stressful, but it also so interesting and rewarding to know that what I am doing every day is making a difference 🙂

Yes, but I have probably not really thought about it much before. I was really pleased to pass an exam I took last year as it was the first one I have had to sit in a long long time! (it was horrible, I think I had forgotten what they were like) I worked really hard for over a year so I was pleased that it paid off in the end! Your parents will be proud of you whatever you decide to do!

Yes I am. I have not achieved everything I have attempted in my career, but I have always been proud of being a scientist. I love what I do and really enjoy asking and answering questions, and learning about how things work (eg bodies, stars, and genes).
